Income Research + Management Adds Client Portfolio Managers

BOSTON, May 5, 2021 — Income Research + Management (“Income Research” or “IR+M”), a fixed income asset management firm based in Boston, today announced the appointment of Ken Johnson as Senior Vice President and Senior Client Portfolio Manager; and Philip Machoka as Vice President and Client Portfolio Manager. Both Mr. Johnson and Mr. Machoka joined IR+M on May 5.

The additions to IR+M’s client portfolio management team will serve to build on the firm’s existing client relationships, offering highly selective, bottom-up fixed income investment solutions to over 800 institutional and high-net-worth clients, managing $90.3 billion in AUM as of 4/30/21.

“We are pleased to welcome Ken and Philip to our team at a time when our firm is experiencing a growth in interest from clients looking to protect their principal and find yield without adding unnecessary risk,” said Molly Manning, Director of Client Service at IR+M. “From pension plans to insurance companies to individuals, our clients’ needs became more complex as the Covid-19 pandemic reshaped the trajectory of markets and economies. We are expanding our client team to further support these investors and determine how our tailored fixed income investment solutions can help them meet their financial goals through the global recovery.”

Mr. Johnson joins IR+M after 20 years of experience in client relations at Loomis, Sayles and Company, where he was most recently Vice President, Fixed Income Product Manager. He worked with the firm’s multisector portfolio management team on benchmark-agnostic strategies including the bond fund, strategic income fund and high-income fund. Earlier in his career, Mr. Johnson was Vice President of Business Development at Investment Counselors Incorporated, an affiliate of PNC Bank. He has an MBA from Fontbonne College and a BA in Business Management from National-Louis University. Mr. Johnson is a notable contributor to Boston-based institutions, aligning with IR+M’s values on supporting the local community. He is currently Director of the Massachusetts Business Roundtable and holds trustee positions at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital and Medical Center and Myrtle Baptist Church of West Newton.

Prior to his new role at IR+M, Mr. Machoka was Managing Director of Investor Relations at Garda Capital Partners – a global alternative asset management firm specializing in fixed income relative value investment strategies in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In his role, Mr. Machoka was responsible for capital raising and business development from a global client base of institutional investors. Previously, he was an Associate of Business Development and Relationship Management for BlackRock Investment Management’s Middle East and Africa Institutional Client Business, based in London, UK. Mr. Machoka has a B.S. in Business Administration from the Questrom School of Business at Boston University. He is a member of the Boston University Minneapolis Alumni Volunteer Association and Upper Midwest National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
