In an effort to provide clients and consultants transparency, Income Research + Management has formally announced leadership positions, said a FundFire article today.
Bill O’Malley, a 25-year veteran of the Boston-based fixed-income manager, will become the firm’s first CEO effective January 1st, 2020.
Managing Principal and co-founder Jack Sommers will serve as Executive Chairperson, leading the firm’s Executive Committee and continuing to oversee Compliance.
Income Research + Management is also elevating Senior Portfolio Managers Jim Gubitosi and Sarah Kilpatrick to C-level roles: Gubitosi will serve as Co-CIO alongside O’Malley; Kilpatrick will be Chief Operating Officer (COO).
With Gubitosi and Kilpatrick offering a combined 28 years of service at Income Research, these C-level appointments demonstrate the firm’s commitment to its tenured leaders. “We are very fortunate that nobody is leaving,” O’Malley says. “We don’t see any hires.”
The firm’s succession planning began in 2001. In the early days at the firm, “everyone wore a lot of hats,” O’Malley says. Clearly defined roles and responsibilities for leaders of asset management firms have become increasingly important.
“Clients and consultants have been calling for more clarity and more transparency for years,” said O’Malley. “I think we’ve done a good job being transparent with them.”
Since its inception in 1987, the boutique fixed-income shop has grown steadily to 175 employees and $75 billion in AUM, and this new leadership structure reflects that growth, FundFire reported.
